Sound nutrition is the cornerstone to good overall health. It's important to realize that it is a lifestyle change - not a diet. Adapting these tips into your day will help you to gain and maintain a fit, healthy body.

Kelly's Tips for Successful Fat Loss:

  • · Avoid skipping meals
  • · Drink water (1 gallon a day)
  • · Take a multi-vitamin/mineral and anti-oxident daily (calcium, b-complex, E)
  • · Read food labels before purchasing (if you can't read the ingredients don't buy it!)
  • · Be aware of serving sizes and use small plates
  • · Sit down to eat; avoid eating on the run
  • · Avoid eating while entertaining or going to parties
  • · Keep healthy and easy foods close by; plan ahead
  • · Avoid saturated fat, added sugar and refined foods (if it melts in your mouth, don't eat it!)
  • · Eat a variety of vegetables and fruits (6-7 servings a day) with low glycemic index
  • · Eat fruits- don't drink them
  • · Use "free" foods for flavor and variety (salsa, spices, low salt broths)
  • · Periodically track food intake; include times, portions and location (ie - eating out)
  • · Avoid or limit alcohol, especially mixed drinks
  • · Time manage your grocery shopping and cooking (don't do either on an empty stomach!)
  • · Order your food as you want it prepared while dining out (steamed, grilled, no fries or bread....)
  • · Don't put yourself in a failing situation; go with win-win
  • · Prepare your food by grilling, baking, or steaming
  • · Adjust your calorie intake to your daily activity level (if you slip, add 5 min to cardio workout that day)
  • · Allow yourself to have a "free" meal weekly
  • · Eat to live, don't live to eat
  • · Avoid adding appetizers to your entrees when eating out
  • · Choose foods closest to its rawest form (fresh, frozen, canned)
  • · Stop eating when you are full
  • · Write down your grocery list before going shopping
  • · Be aware of creamy sauces, extra fats and sugars added to healthy entress (teriyaki sauce, alfredo sauce, cheese toppings, lemon butter, etc.)
  • · If you can't see through the salad dressing don't eat it!
  • · Remember, everything in moderation
